We believe that design is not only a means of communicating, it is a means for critical thinking, researching, and problem-solving that informs all disciplines. We are committed to providing a design program that introduces the diverse body of design disciplines to high school students.

MISSION
The Design Initiative for Community Empowerment (DICE) is an initiative by Pratt Institute’s Art and Design Education Department for providing high school students with a supportive and professional environment to explore the field of design. Our goal is to develop and implement curricula that present design as an active, empowering and creative endeavor with broad applicability for fields of study, rather than as a set of narrowly defined skills for commercial design. In collaboration with Pratt Institute, DICE will offer unique and stimulating educational experiences to high school students , exposing them to the intellectual challenges and career possibilities of the world of design.

student ENROLLMENT
DICE is open to all New York City public high school students grades 9-12.

Our goal is to establish meaningful ties to the design community. If you're a designer/educator who is interested in teaching, volunteering, visiting as a guest speaker, or donating some time or resources, let us know - we'd love to hear from you.
